A Game of Thrones

So May has come and gone, in June we are starting to feel the arrival of winter.  Freezing mornings and evenings.

During the months of May and June our final year students are busy shooting and editing their single camera shoots for their qualification and the exciting part is that once this is completed they go to various companies for their Internship.

(See some of the articles below on what they have been shooting.)

Sons of Life have had a very successful South African tour and are now No 1 on the SA Charts.  Well done lads and we wait in anticipation for the announcement of your next tour.

So remember to bring out the winter woolies and wrap up warmly.

Always remember that “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”

Tribute to Dr. Maya Angelou

By Nokwanda Yimba

The world of writing and inspiration loses one of its best in all times. On Wednesday, 28 May 2014, we lost a teacher, activist, and an all round warrior for human rights. With her book’ I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings’, Dr. Maya Angelo touched the world with her words and grace. We are saddened at the loss of this icon, mentor and liberator of the world with just a pen and paper. Rest in Peace. You will be missed and never forgotten.

Here is Dr. Maya Angelou’s most loved poem entitled ‘Still I Rise’. Be inspired by this literary giant’s work.

Still I Rise

You may write me down in history

With your bitter, twisted lies,

You may trod me in the very dirt

But still, like dust, I’ll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?

Why are you beset with gloom?

‘Cause I walk like I’ve got oil wells

Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,

With the certainty of tides,

Just like hopes springing high,

Still I’ll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?

Bowed head and lowered eyes?

Shoulders falling down like teardrops.

Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haughtiness offend you?

Don’t you take it awful hard

‘Cause I laugh like I’ve got gold mines

Digging in my own back yard.

You may shoot me with your words,

You may cut me with your eyes,

You may kill me with your hatefulness,

But still, like air, I’ll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?

Does it come as a surprise

That I dance like I’ve got diamonds

At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history’s shame

I rise

Up from a past that’s rooted in pain

I rise

I’m a black ocean, leaping and wide,

Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.

Leaving behind nights of terror and fear

I rise

Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear

I rise

Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,

I am the dream and the hope of the slave.

I rise

I rise

I rise

SHORT BITES

South African film releases

By Nokwanda Yimba

It has been a very interesting time for South African film this year. A few movies have premiered but none have received the spotlight and praise than the screenplays iNumber Number, Konfetti, Agent 2000, and Four Corners. Everybody is talking about these films and the star- studded cast they possess. Do we smell possible Oscar or SAFTA nominations? Go out there and have a look at them.  Feel free to tell us how you feel about any of the movies by submitting comments to newsletter@felinetech.co.za.  Let’s support South African film!

#In-house Production Companies

Footprint Media TV has launched 4 in-house production companies. These 4 production companies will work hand in hand with the channel to provide content. The 4 companies will be run by FMA students who will specialize in different genres of content production. The channel’s main target audience is the youth, the head of channel Ms. Sheryl Lynn Mathews is very excited to work with the ‘young bloods’ in content production as they have fresh uncut ideas that will spice up TV programming.

Let’s take a sneak preview on what each company will be producing.  Brain insane productions will focus on the entrepreneurial shows, leaning more on the young street entrepreneurs.

Core fountain productions will be producing hot off the heels reality shows.

Snapped productions will take over the daily breakfast show.

  306 insert project

Vintage Fashion

By Rejoice Ntamu

Going out for an ENG shoot for the first time was a bit stressful because I didn’t know what to expect and I was focused on making sure everything is perfect.  I was very restless as I was directing my ‘Fashion vintage’ insert and I felt lot of pressure.

‘Vintage Fashion’ insert is my 306 class project and from the title, the insert is all about showcasing different styles of vintage fashion. We shot this past weekend at Kitchener’s pub in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, where the vintage fashion sellers’ setup on weekends and in my opinion it went well. It felt natural due to the combination of amazing weather, the influx customers coming in and out and the nice background music from the DJ just made it perfect.

All the crew members were on point with their work and it seemed like they had fun in their appointed roles. The presenter understood my directions and the subject specialists knew their stuff, so at the end of the day, it was a combination of a good cast and crew. I am now in postproduction, for more details on the finished program, keep it the Footprinter

STUDENTS BLOG

Keep going

By Tinyiko Lehaiwa

Life can easily pull us down so hard that we feel like giving up but there is that voice deep within that keeps us grounded, reminding us of our place here on earth. Most of the times we let our obstacles rule over us, hence we do not succeed in the goals we have set.

Have you ever felt like you have been cursed, because everything you to do seem to go wrong? If so, Remember you have so much to lose than gain and never give up because God has a purpose for your life and everything happens for a reason.

I think the way forward when we feel down and out is to hang in, as there is an answer and also keep trying until you achieve your dreams.

I know am here to shine and nothing will pull me down as I will keep trying, persevere every obstacle in my way to achieve success.

Reconciliation

By Keenen Leqoalana

What comes to your mind whenever you feel like reconnecting, being honest to yourself to say; I need peace in my life?

Well, some of us feel that it’s better if we don’t talk to the person that hurt us and it feels peaceful when you are alone. In most cases the person seeking for peace is the person that was hurt not the person that hurt the other one.

When you reconcile you become the bigger person, you let go of pride, unhappiness and self doubt. I feel reconciliation brings back the sense of belonging.

Some of us fail to reconcile with our friends, partners and parents, because we always have someone fighting for us. However, that person thinks they are helping you, but they forget they will not be with you forever; they need to let you grow up.

When reconciling you need to ask yourself, one, what I have learnt from this conflict and two, you need to mean it when apologising and lastly, the person receiving it should also be honest in forgiving. After reconciling it is not what you say that matters but it’s what you do after reconciling, so pay attention on your actions.

I’ve recently reconciled with my family, take it from me, it helps. J

Nokwanda Yimba

Who is Nokwanda?

AAAHHHH mmm Nokwanda she is a very loud girl who loves GOD ,who loves her family and she is just passionate ,she doesn’t know herself, so it’s hard to tell you who she is, but she is still discovering herself , so please ask me that question 20 years from now.

Where are you from, and where do you see yourself going?

Okay I’m from KZN , rural rural Zulu girl, and I see myself really going big, this film and  production thing, and I see myself having my own production company. So humble beginnings, great endings.

What are your strengths and weaknesses?

My strengths are that, I’m a very good communicator, my strength is that I’m  very aaahhh mmmh what’s the word I’m looking for, accepting of people and I’m very well spoken and I’m not very easily deterred ,that’s my strength, I stand by my words and I stand by my faith

Weaknesses is that aaahh mmmhh often I let my emotions  get that bad of me ,I’m very trusting , and one weakness that I have is I’m very short tempered.

Have you ever Googled yourself?

Hahahahah I Googled myself and I found my Facebook account and my twitter account and yeah that’s all I found.

What are you best childhood memories?

Being on the stage, being that pre-school girl on stage that had to stand there and look pretty yeah you know, just being on the stage that’s my best childhood memory. Many people love what they saw when  they saw me on stage

What size shoes do you wear?

I’m a size five.

As the Footprinter of the month, what would you say to the students that are coming to join the family?

I say that come here, and forget about school forget about high school, that is in the past. Don’t come here and think that you know, you are here to be at a normal college, no, come here and be open minded and just come here to learn, you know you are here because you want to learn. So don’t come here and have a big mouth, and don’t come here thinking you going to run this place. Come here and be prepared to learn. You will never know how you will walk out of here.
